The festival, which runs from 10am to 5pm, will feature a wonderful array of stalls offering a wide range of produce from artisan cheeses to handmade chocolates, flapjacks to chilli sauces, ciders to liquors and cakes to herbs and spices.
This year’s hot food stalls includes exciting new participants as well as returning favourites with a line-up that features The Original Goodfillas, The Crepe Escape, Cham Cham, Noodles2Go, Deep Curryosity, Vale Hog Roast, La Frogga and Bwdiful, not to mention the chilled delights of Fablas Ice Cream.
Those who want to try a local tipple are also well catered for with a magnificent array of stallholders selling cocktails, gins, wines, liquors, beers and ciders, with ample opportunity to taste and buy.
Organised by The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil Business Improvement District (BID), the stalls are located in Penderyn Square in the heart of the town. Entry to the festival is free.

The festival is delighted to welcome Kind Protein, Those Vegan Pizza Guys, Calon Cakes, Ahh Lovely, Alter Vego, Handlebar Barista and CaribSwede Vegan Bakery Company for the first time and hopes to welcome many vegans as well as those interested in finding out more about delicious vegan food and vegan friendly gifts / crafts.
This year’s programme of chef demos, in the beautiful setting of the Redhouse courtyard, has a sweet theme and is ideal for those keen to get tips on how to make perfect chocolates, unusual flapjacks and more.
The festival also promises lots of laughs and interaction for all the family. Visitors will be able to enjoy entertainment from a living fruit and vegetable man, Froojamaflip, and his gardener friend Fred, whilst there will be comic capers from Mark a la Carte and Jason Maverick, foodie fun on high with stilt-walker Jim Millar and lots of competitions with the Capital FM street stars. Add to this face painting, balloon modelling, fun food-based science with Science Made Simple and animals from Greenmeadow Community Farm, and it promises to be a wonderful day out for all the family.
Festival organisers The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil BID hope to attract over 5000 visitors. Antonia Pompa, BID Co-ordinator said, “This is always an enormously popular event and a brilliant showcase for the great range of food and drink available in the South Wales region. We are delighted to be welcoming some fabulous vegan businesses for the very first time and I’m sure they will go down a storm.”
She added, “Merthyr comes alive during the festival and we are proud to invite so many visitors to our town. It really is the perfect way to spend your Saturday. Try out tasty local cooking whilst you are here and then take home lots of delicious local produce to enjoy later.”
She added, “I would urge visitors to spend the day in Merthyr town centre. It is only £1 to park in the pay and display car parks all day so enjoy the food stalls, the chef demonstrations and the live entertainment, but also visit our local shops and cafes around town to make the most of a relaxing day out.”
