Teddy bears to take over Merthyr town centre
Teddy bears take centre stage as Merthyr Tydfil hosts its second Ready Teddy Go festival on Saturday 17th September organised by The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil Business Improvement District (BID). The town centre will be alive with teddy bears for this fabulous family festival with lots of activities and entertainment for the young and the young at heart.
Taking place between 10am and 4pm, teddy bear related highlights include a teddy bear treasure trail, storytelling with a teddy bear theme, art and craft activities, themed games and teddy bear walkabout characters.
It’s not all teddy bears and visitors to the event can also enjoy a children’s market, community music and dance performances, displays with some amazing animals including meerkats, kestrels, ravens and kookaburra, face painting, the Heart Angels Creation Station, children’s rides, science workshops and much more.
Antonia Pompa, BID Co-ordinator said, “After last year’s successful festival when the town was flooded with teddy bears, we just had to organise the festival again. Once again, we are appealing to everyone, young and old, to bring their teddy bear along with them and join in all the activities and entertainment. This festival is all about taking part and we have loads of activities and some great entertainment lined up. We want everyone to enjoy a great family day out.”
She added, “This is the final event in our programme of summer festivals which has included the Awesome Merthyr Chilli Fiesta, Merthyr Food Festival and Merthyr by the Sea. What is so pleasing, however, is that we are not the only organisation bringing visitors to the town centre with exciting events. We have seen some fabulous and very popular independently organised festivals and events including Merthyr’s first scooter rally, Merthyr Tydfil Global Village Festival and the Your Community Day in St Tydfil Shopping Centre. When the new public spaces were created in our town centre, they were meant to be used and it is wonderful to see this happening.”
